1) The Player Haters' Ball, Friday May 8th @ The Root

First, you look great tonight. And not just tonight, either. You look great every night. Every night and every day. All day, and long into the night. You look so good. You all look so good, that I just want to tell you... I mean, what I'm trying to say is, we've been hanging out for a while now, and... I'm starting to think you've become special to me. You have. All 800 of you. You've become special. You've become special to the point where I don't even think about anyone else anymore. To the point where I don't even want to think about anyone else. The only thing I have room for in my head you. I don't want to be with anyone else except for all of you. Cuz you're in my heart, now. You launched an attack that my defenses systematically failed to withstand, and now you're in there. You've infiltrated my headquarters, and taken over my heartquarters. All them other players can have everyone else. They can keep playin that field. I'm done. I'm hangin' up the shoes. It's you. It's you. It's all of you. And all I need, all I ever need from you, is one, little, dance:

This Friday, May 8th, 9PM doors @ The Root (1360 College Ave. On The Hill, Boulder):

2) Matt Blake is....The Vigilante.

In other news, check this out: We all know that Cervantes is nestled snugly in a quaint little part of Denver called, 5 Points. We also all know that 5 points has been known to be home to the occasional roughian. Well, the other night we took a bus down, and sure enough one of those roughians broke onto the bus and made away with a bunch of beer....and a cell phone. (all the DJ gear and most of the riders' stuff had been brought into the venue as per our normal procedure) But what the roughian didn't know was that the phone belonged to the girlfriend of one, Matt Blake, and Matt Blake isn't the kind of guy to sit idly by while some roughian makes calls on his girl's phone. The next morning, he called me up and told me of what had happened. I was all like, "yeah, I heard. That's lame." And he was all like, "well, there's this scam that people do, where they call up a phone and say, 'this is so-and-so with Cingular, and you are eligible for a free phone upgrade, all you have to do is give us your credit card number.'" He went on to suggest that we call the stolen phone and employ the same technique to get the roughian to divulge his address. To which, I was all like, "let me think about this." Then, I went back to sleep. When I woke up, I called him back. We landed on a plan. We decided that the best thing to do would be to send a text to the phone saying, "Hey, this is Matt. I know you're at work, but I'm not going to be able to make it up to Boulder to give you that thousand dollars before I skip town today, is there anyone in Denver I could leave it with instead?" And so after formulating the aforementioned plan, we implemented it. We knew it was going to be a long shot. Guess what, though? Anyone ballsy enough to break into a bus and steal shit, and anyone stupid enough to steal shit from Matt Blake's girl, is probably also Ballsy and Stupid enough to try to scam an extra G. And they were. The dude bit. He sent a text back a little bit later, saying, "Yeah, my friend, Reggie, who I met a couple weeks back can take care of it." Matt ended up getting a meeting time and location and then went to the cops. You would think that the cops would be impressed, and say, "good work, kid. We'll take it from here." But, that's not exactly how it went down either. They were impressed. Definitely. But instead of the "we'll take it from here," thing, they said, "here's an envelope. put a bunch of ones in it and go to the area. Call this number (gave him the local dispatch number), and brief the officers when they arrive. Make the drop, and they'll get your back." So...long story short, some version of that happened, except Matt never had to interact with the guy, he just got a visual description and took it to the cops, and eventually they got the him and the phone. The good news is that the guy never saw it coming, and has been arrested for various forms of gang-banging so many times that to this day he thinks he got picked up randomly and that he really was moments away from making an easy grand. Unfortunately, they were not able to link the guy to the actual crime because he just said that he bought it off of somebody on the street for 20 bucks. Oh well. Still a huge moral victory for the BTS Department of Vigilante Justice. Note: The Basics Fund does not endorse vigilante justice in any form, especially dangerously awesome forms such as that one. Also, please don't leave valuables on the buses.

3) Samples to Headline DBS 2 Year.

In still other news, one of our Resident DJs, a certain, Samples, of Fresh 2 Death notoriety has apparently caught the eye, and/or ear, of quite a few people, with his recent track, "Drank in My Cup." He was recently featured on glitchhopforum.com, as well as on several electronic music blogs, including bwompbeats and Dr. Krank. and...And...AND>>>> He will be headlining the Denver Bass Squad's 2 year anniversary party on May 22nd at Beta. Because we know him, and because we are pretty likeable dudes and chicks overall, the good people at DBS have thrown us on as CO-Presenters of the event. What does this mean for all our peeps? $5 list for anyone who sends an email to crowdrock@basslabmusic.com. Put "DBS 2 Year $5 List" in the subject line, and something about The Basics Fund in the body. Feel free to join the Facebook event as well http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=92093861275&ref=ts. And if you need a ride, we'll obviously be offering buses. go here for details: http://thebasicsfund.org/events/340

4) Art Studios and Band Practice Space with venue access coming soon to a Basics Fund near you.

In late June, some of our good homies will be opening up some industrial space for the good of the creative minded. If you need a spot in the Denver (Rhyno Warehouse District ~30th and Brighton Blvd) area to play music or create art of any kind, please get in touch with Jake Martin. His number is 720.301.8552. His email is jakemartin94@yahoo.com. In addition to being studio/practice space, the building will also function as a gallery/venue on occasion, meaning that people who rent here are going to have access to a place to perform as well.

Word. Alright. That wraps it up for now. Take care, and check out the calendar below!

Love with every chamber,

Dustin.
